Our Process : Design

Design continues to evolve as the range of materials and those who shape materials is ever increasing in our dynamic and exciting industry.

At Kitchens on Thorndon we believe that good design doesn’t just happen. It’s the product of years of training, good listening, an active imagination and exhaustive attention to detail. It is these qualities our clients have come to appreciate in our designer, Sandra Banks. Whether you are renovating or building a new home, she will design a well planned space that is both functional and stylish. To create the kitchen you desire she will recommend products, finishes, and colours with you, and discuss what sort of style you may be thinking about - whether you like minimal, modern, contemporary, through to traditional or country.

Working to your chosen budget, Sandra will develop concept floor plans initially to begin with and once these have been fine tuned to your liking then they will be elevated up for you to fully view. At this stage, she finalises materials to be used including bench options, cabinetry styles i.e. lacquer, vinyl wrap, timber veneer, melteca, handles, pantry options etc right down to the rubbish bins and or course – the kitchen sink! To enhance your design, flooring, wall colours, electrical and lighting can also be discussed.

Once this is completed, the plans together with specifications are priced and this usually takes a few days depending on complexity. This consists of giving you an overall price and in some cases, with other options included that you may wish to tailor to an end result. And while the possibilities are endless, only one combination is just right for you.
